Brazilian League of Legends Personality Accused of Sexual Assault

Former Brazilian League of Legends (LoL) player, coach, and Riot Games caster Gabriel “MiT” Souza was accused of sexual assault on Tuesday by tattoo artist Daniela Li. In a series of posts on Twitter, Li described how Souza allegedly forced her to perform oral sex during a date in 2013 or 2014. Shortly after, cosplayer Debora Fuzeti answered Li’s post with the claim that she “went through the same with the same person.”

Souza is known in the Brazilian LoL community for having worked in important teams such as Flamengo Esports and paiN Gaming. In 2020, he worked as a caster for Riot Games on the Challenger Circuit, a lower division of the Brazilian League of Legends Championship (CBLoL), now extinct due to the CBLoL move into a franchise model.

Riot Games told The Esports Observer that “the CBLoL casters team will be announced in the coming days. The company confirms, however, that Gabriel ‘MiT’ Souza is not among the talent hired for the 2021 season of the championship.”

Before posting her account on the happenings, Li wrote that it was “one of the most difficult things I have ever done in my life, but it is something that haunts me for years and always comes back, even though I try to forget everything.” In her posts, she says that the story of that night is even known through the community, excluding the fact that Souza forced her into oral sex.

The Brazilian esports community, including people who worked with Souza, expressed support for Li through social media. The post has also encouraged other women to expose abusive situations by other local esports personalities, such as Sharks Esports Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) pro player Fillipe “pancc” Martins, 22-years-old at the time, who had his sexually-themed conversations with a 15-year-old girl exposed on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

Souza has not publicly commented on the accusations to date. TEO also contacted Li and Fuzeti for comment but has not received a response as of this writing.

Li’s full post on Twitter follows below, translated from Portuguese.

** Content warning: the paragraphs below detail an alleged sexual assault **

A few years ago, 6-7 years ago, I matched up with a guy on Tinder, who I already knew who [he] was because he was a coach for one of the biggest teams in LoL, I thought it was amazing to be in that environment and stuff. We started to [talk], we kept talking about going out, I think I even sent him pictures and things like that. He repeatedly insisted that we should go out to a ‘hotel’ and that we didn’t have to do anything, just watch a movie and talk. I had already made it clear to him that I wouldn’t like to do certain things on the first date, because I didn’t like it and I just wanted to get out and get to know myself better. He was super-persistent with this story of going to the hotel or something, I even considered it a few times, but I said I was going to feel uncomfortable and I never went.

There was a day when we agreed to go out and see where we were going after I picked him up, to eat, drink, talk in some bar or whatever. I picked him up at GH [Gaming House] by car and we stopped on a street in Jardins [district in São Paulo] to decide what we were going to do. Then we started to kiss and OUT OF NOTHING he just took [his penis] out. I was alone with a guy in the middle of a desert neighborhood at night. He started to force my head to suck him, which I clearly didn’t want and HE KNEW. I try not to, but he pushed and held my head on his [penis.] He tells this version of the story to people himself (which I didn’t want). Only hiding the fact that he forced me. After that, I just left him at the house.

It took me a LONG time to really understand what had happened to me that night, so much so that afterward I still talked to him (for a little while). Because until then I didn’t have that awareness that I have today, I just didn’t believe that it had happened to me and that someone like that guy, whom I admired even had done something like this. Few knew about it, but I told some people this year and another girl came to me, who called me at DM [direct message] and said she was abused by the same guy. And also that she knows others, that we were not the only ones. I’m not going to name anyone because it doesn’t fit me.

I got tired of living in the shadow of my abuse and seeing my abuser just growing up, interacting with people I know, hanging out with people I like. I even cut people from my life because of that, people who knew what I went through and CHOSE to go for a walk and become friends with the guy because he lives in a house with a pool. The consequences I have of this will stay with me my whole life, my cries, my anxiety attacks, my insomnia, fear of going out alone with someone else when I meet someone, among other stuff. My intention here with this ‘exposed’ is to alert, and if this prevents something like this from happening to another woman by the hand of this guy, I will be a little lighter.

I was not going to, but I am writing the name because I reflected more and there is no point in warning without actually warning: the name of my abuser is Gabriel, or better known as Mit. I’m going to get away from here (Twitter) for a few days so I won’t be affected so much. I appreciate the messages of support.
