Globo, V3A Agency Bring WESG to Latin America
Organized by V3A Agency in partnership with the communications giant Globo, the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) tournament in Latin America will begin its open qualifiers starting Jan. 8 for Dota 2, Pro Evolution Soccer 2021 (PES 21), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), and Starcraft 2 competitions.
The State of Rio de Janeiro is supporting the tournament and will host the final stage of the competition in an in-person event in the city of Rio de Janeiro on March 6-7. The final stage will feature only qualified teams and guests, according to the WESG LATAM’s website, following safety protocols recommended by the World Health Organization.
The event is being sponsored by telecom brand Oi, Nestlé brand KitKat, and TNT Energy Drink, and is also being supported by Sony PlayStation, electric solutions company APC, and gaming chair manufacturer DT3 Sports.
The total prize pool adds up to $250K BRL (roughly $46.3K USD), and the tournament will be broadcast on Twitch and YouTube from it’s closed qualifiers on WESG LATAM’s official channels. Globo’s pay-TV channel SporTV is also set to broadcast the finals of the competition, which aspires to be the “Olympic Games” of esports.
This is the second edition of WESG LATAM. The first edition was interrupted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
