Heroic, Evil Geniuses, TYLOO, and Renegades claim ESL One Cologne 2020 titles

ESL One Cologne may not have been held in the Cathedral of Counter-Strike, but it still delivered some amazing games across the regions. Due to the ongoing global pandemic the prestigious event was split into Europe, North America, Asia, and Oceania with each having its own tournament.

Heroic, Evil Geniuses, Renegades, and TYLOO won the Europe, North America, Oceania, and Asia events respectively.

Heroic took down Vitality in convincing fashion. The Danish side swept the Frenchmen 3-0 to take the crown thanks to a huge +23 kill-to-death ratio and 92 average damage per round round from Martin “stavn” Lund. heroic won 16-7, 16-13, and 16-9 on Mirage, Inferno, and Nuke.

It was the opposite kind of final in North America as Evil Geniuses went the five map distance against their opponents in Team Liquid. The series was a back-and-forth from the start with EG picking up the opening map of Nuke 19-16 in overtime. In the fifth and final map, EG managed to carve out their win on Dust2 where they won 16-12. Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte and Ethan “Ethan” Arnold were the top performers for EG but Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski was the series’ top performer with a ridiculous +33 kill-to-death ratio and 95.6 average damage per round.

3-4. FURIA – $12,500

Renegades also managed to pull off a sweep in their final appearance against AVANT. Renegades have been the dominant team in their region, moving their record to five titles in a row in this online era. In this event, the Aussie lineup didn’t drop a single map as they took down the best teams in the regions.

In its own ballpark of not a sweep but not a five map nailbiter, TYLOO took down ViCi in the Asia ESL One Cologne finals. Although ViCi took the loss, Yi “JamYoung” Yang was the best performer, finishing with an astounding 104.8 average damage per round while playing for the losing team. He also managed a +18 kill-to-death ratio while YuLun “Summer” Cai of TYLOO came in second in the server at +8.
