Invictus Gaming eliminate Team Aster to secure a top eight finish at the Leipzig Major

Invictus Gaming put behind their woes of losing to Vici Gaming in the upper bracket as they ousted Team Aster 2-1 in the lower bracket to secure a top eight spot at the Leipzig Major. IG are now one of the two Chinese teams that remain in the second DPC Major of the year, the other one being Vici Gaming.

Invictus Gaming took game 1, bringing out Tide Hunter and Arc Warden, which haven’t been seen a lot in the tournament. Aster’s Sccc tried to mount a challenge with his Troll Warlord, but it wasn’t enough as IG took game 1 in about 40 minutes. Game 2 went on for 65 minutes, but Aster’s Phantom Lancer was too farmed for IG to stand a chance. Emo went for the Divine Rapier play with Ember Spirit, but ended up dropping the Rapier into the hands of the PL. Even though the game went on for long, IG couldn’t even take a tier 3 tower down and Aster seemed to be in control. Game 3 was totally anti-climactic; lasting a bit more than 27 minutes. Invictus Gaming brought out another not-so-popular offlaner in the form of Slardar and the pick seemed to work quite well. Team Aster were never really in the game and a lost fight at their mid tier 3 tower was all it took to draw out the ‘gg’ calls.

Big GG to @invgaming who continue on in this Major with a well deserved victory!!

Well played to @TeamAsterCN, who fought hard but it was not enough to continue on. pic.twitter.com/LMZ35bQhJn

Invictus Gaming will take on Beastcoast in the next lower bracket round, and that should be a hell of a matchup. Earlier in the day, Beastcoast eliminated Nigma in a thrilling series in which they played a mid Disruptor of all heroes in the deciding game! Their confidence is bound to be high and if IG want to make it to the top 6, they will have to bring out their best game. Both teams get a break for a day before they head into their next elimination game.

Tomorrow’s games will feature Fnatic, TNC, Na’Vi and Team Liquid fighting for their tournament lives while Evil Geniuses, Vici Gaming, Team Secret and Alliance will fight for a spot in the upper bracket final. The tournament is heating up and it’s only bound to get better from here on.
