LoL: SoFi Partners With Riot Games To Invest In NA Amateur Talent
Riot’s latest partnership will help amateur players make themselves known.
Today, personal finance company SoFi and Riot Games announced a new partnership together. The news comes just as the Honda 2020 Scouting Grounds is set to begin. For those who don’t know, Scouting Grounds is an annual event for NA amateur talent to show off their skills for LCS staff and coaches.

As part of the agreement, SoFi is giving all eligible competitors in the event $250 in a primary investment account. In addition, they’ll sponsor a “Most Improved Player” award at the end. Finally, SoFi will have its own part on the broadcast. This segment will be called “SoFi Money Moves” and highlight key moments in the games through replays.
That’s not all though. SoFi will be working with Nerd Street Gamers to host another tournament for college-aged players. Dubbed the Sofi Meta Melee, it’ll take place over four weeks and boast a total $20k prize pool for those who want to invest or help pay for college. There will be events for ARAM, Summoner’s Rift and Teamfight Tactics. The tournament starts on November 20, so if you’re interested head on over to the Nerd Street Gamer’s website to learn more and register.
Amateur talent development has been a hot topic this year. All three of NA’s World Championship representatives failed to make it out of Groups. Overall, many people see that the level of play throughout the year has lagged behind other major regions. Because of these factors, the community has been outspoken about wanting change, especially in developing new talent. This latest partnership should be a great help to get these amateur players noticed, so here’s to hoping things start to look upward in 2021!
