Lucky wins Smash Melee Singles at Rollback Rumble: SCL Q4

Joey “Lucky” Aldama won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Rollback Rumble: SCL Q4 on October 30. It marked his first time qualifying for the Slippi Champions League. DaJuan “Shroomed” McDaniel, Sasha “Magi” Sullivan, and Steven “FatGoku” Callopy also reached Division 2 Relegation of the League’s final week.

Lucky advanced out of pools with flawless wins over “ManRay” and Andrew “Secrets” K. Then in the West Coast top 32, he beat Isaac “NOOT” Blake and Gio “null” Rossi, both 3-1. Lucky kicked off the final top 16 bracket with a 3-2 win over FatGoku.

Lucky suffered an 0-3 loss at the hands of Shroomed in Winners Semis. However, he bounced back in losers with a 3-0 win against Arjun “lloD” Malhotra and another 3-0 win over FatGoku. Then in Losers Finals, Lucky narrowly secured a 3-2 victory against Magi. He finished Rollback Rumble: SCL Q4 dominantly, beating Shroomed 6-0 between both sets of Grand Finals.

Shroomed placed 2nd at Rollback Rumble: SCL Q4, thus earning a spot in the Slippi Champions League every single week. He didn’t drop a single game before top 16, sweeping opponents like Alexander “KoopaTroopa895” Plasencia and Armand “ARMY” Del Duca. Then in the final bracket, Shroomed beat Austin “Redd” Self 3-1, Lucky 3-0, and Magi 3-1.

Unlike Shroomed, Magi had a somewhat tumultuous journey into top 16. She won five-game sets against Matteo Caglioti and Aziz “Hax” Al-Yami (in Hax’s first online tournament all year). Magi also defeated Isaac “bobby big ballz” P. 3-1 and Michael Rollberg 3-2 in top 16.

FatGoku secured the final Slippi Champions League qualifier spot at Rollback Rumble: SCL Q4. It was his first time qualifying for the League since his 1st place finish at the first Rollback Rumble. FatGoku won sets over Sufyan “Android 0” Hassan, Colin “Colbol” Green, Kyle “Kalamazhu” Zhu, and Michael.
