Overwatch League: Guangzhou Charge Releases Four Players
The Guangzhou Charge is saying goodbye to neptuNo, Chara, Krystal and Wya.
The Guangzhou Charge announced its first moves for this Overwatch League off-season. Players Alberto “neptuNo” González, Jung-yeon “Chara” Kim, Cai “Krystal” Shilong and Qi “Wya” Haomiao are all released from the team.
This Overwatch League 2020 Season was tough for neptuNo. Due to visa issues with his home country of Spain, the player couldn’t play most of the season with his team. The Guangzhou Charge, initially based in China, had to move to South Korea due to the COVID-19 crisis largely impacting China at the beginning of the year.
González is not the only support player leaving the Guangzhou Charge: team captain Chara is also saying goodbye to the team. The Lucio master was playing with the team since its beginnings, leading his teammates and shotcalling.
Krystal and Wya were both two-way players for the Guangzhou Charge. The two players are still playing with the Overwatch Contenders team Ultra Prime Academy.
Earlier this month, the Guangzhou Charge also released three members of their coaching staff. Head Coach Hyo-jin “J1N” Cho and Assistant Coach Seung-min “Tydolla” Jung and Sung-woo “Sungwoo” Hong were with the team since its creation back in 2018. As their contract ended, the team decided not to renew the coaches for a new season.
The Chengdu Hunters are entering the off-season with many seats to fill. The team is lacking at least one support player and could use an additional tank. Moreover, the organization didn’t yet reveal who will be coaching the new team for the Overwatch League 2021 season.
