Sources: Activision Blizzard Esports Eyes New Sponsorship Categories for Teams – The Esports Observer
On top of gambling and alcohol, there are two other sponsorship categories that Activision Blizzard Esports teams are now out hunting: cryptocurrency and armed forces, sources tell SBJ Esports.
The Esports Observer reported last week that sports wagering and liquor/beer categories were now open to teams, after the London Royal Ravens announced a new betting partner in Midnite.
Now, sources have told SBJ/TEO that crypto and armed services are two additional previously unreported categories that teams can hunt.
In the crypto case, teams in both the Overwatch League and Call of Duty League can sell deals to brands doing crypto exchanges or crypto coin wallet services. Activision Blizzard must approve the deals, sources say.
For armed services, that’s just for Call of Duty League teams, given the video game’s military associations.
Activision opening up the new categories shows how the company is working with teams to help them find more revenue from sponsorships, which remain most esports organizations’ most lucrative stream.
