Apex Legends: use this clever knockdown shield trick to win the final 1v1

Reaching the final circle in Apex Legends is stressful enough, let alone how easy it becomes to choke in that final 1v1 battle. It can be incredibly demoralizing to make it all the way there, only to fall short because you got too nervous or were just a second too slow to beat that one last player. Thankfully a new little strategy was discovered that can give you a nice trick up your sleeve to squeak out that win in the final moments of the game.

To make this tactic work, you’ll need two important factors to be in place. First, you need a gold knockdown shield, and second to actually make it to the final two players in the match. If you’re up against two or more enemies, this isn’t going to work.

The best part about this tactic is that it is a fail-safe you can use if you happen to lose that final gunfight, assuming you position yourself correctly. Fight near the edge of the circle as its closing in, and bait your opponent into performing a finisher on you. If you didn’t know, characters who are having a finisher performed on them are completely invincible during the animation, while the player doing the finisher is not. That means if you lose the 1v1 and they start doing a finisher on you, and circle overtakes you, they will be damaged but you won’t.

By the time this could happen, the circle will almost certainly be strong enough to kill them immediately, giving you time to inch your way back into the circle for the win. As you can see in the video posted by u/Sjborda, baiting the enemy back with your shield can cause their animation to push them just far enough for the circle to damage them. Just do your best to make sure they actually take enough damage to be killed by the circle before they can actually complete the finisher.

The most important aspect here is to have that gold knockdown shield with the self revive skill, otherwise the game would just end once you got downed if it were a 1v1. If you can manage to set this all up, odds are your opponent will fall for it since they will be so eager to get the win as fast as possible and won’t think about slipping outside the circle, if they even know that’s possible.
