Cyberpunk 2077: How To Pass The Pickup Main Quest If Jackie Keeps Disappearing
Cyberpunk 2077 is chock-full of bugs. While developer CD Projekt Red is currently hard at work updating the game and remedying technical issues, gamers are still contending with glitches while trying to work their way through Night City.
Few of these bugs are game breaking, but one in particular will stump your progress through the main quest, even blocking your ability to leave the mission and do side quests. This particular obstacle occurs during a quest called The Pickup. If you run into this, there is a way to work through the mission and make sure it does not happen. If you do not feel like waiting for more patches, follow the steps in this guide.
Before The Quest
Before you meetup with Jackie to make contact with the Maelstrom crew, create a backup save. This is honestly a good idea with any open-world RPG. These games are so long and so many things can go wrong, you’ll want to do whatever you can to avoid loosing significant progress. Keeping several different save files at all times will help cushion the damage of a corrupt save file. Hopefully you will not have to do this to save yourself from the bug, but it is always good to have a plan B. Finally, make sure you have a save available right as the firefight starts where Jackie is in your line of sight.
The end of the mission involves you shooting your way through a warehouse with Jackie Welles. This is where things can go terribly wrong. For some unknown reason, he can mysteriously disappear in the middle of the firefight. At the end of the mission you have to talk to a Maelstrom NPC, but if Jackie is not there, the mission comes to a complete halt and you cannot interact with the character. This also happened once to us before the combat encounter, so this is where saving often comes in handy.
How To Fix It
Fortunately, there is a way to complete this mission without Jackie disappearing. Unfortunately, it is still frustrating to to pull off and you will probably fail a couple of times before getting it right. Jackie seems to disappear if you move too far away from him or look away from him for too long.
With this in mind, do the quest without straying away from your sidekick. The last room of the encounter has you jumping down from a platform. Jumping down seems to trigger his disappearance too, so try to kill all the enemies from above here. You’ll want to use long range weapons, which is bad news for anyone with a melee build.
There’s no denying how annoying it is to have to follow these instructions just to progress through the main story of Cyberpunk 2077. No one can be blamed for waiting on more patches. If the game ends up anything like other open-world RPGs taken to consoles like Fallout: New Vegas, the console version may never be fully fixed.
