Dragon Age Fans Are Divided Over Dreadwolf Gameplay Leaks
If you've been keeping an eye on the games industry over the weekend, you'll know that a batch of videos showcasing Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's combat leaked after reports that the game would be taking inspiration from the likes of Destiny and Final Fantasy 15. However, the actual videos showed us a combat system more akin to something like God of War, and Dragon Age fans have been chatting about how they feel about this combat system and if it's a good fit for the series.
You only have to scroll down the Dragon Age subreddit for a few seconds at the moment to find in-depth discussion about the topic, including a question by u/cupidswing about how fans feel overall about the potential changes. Hundreds of fans have had their say in the replies, and while a lot of people are just happy to see some new Dragon Age for the first time in almost a decade, there doesn't seem to be that much of a general consensus on the new combat system.
For some, the shift away from the more tactical elements of the series is a little concerning, especially for those who are worried about the initial report that claims companions can't be directly controlled in Dreadwolf, which would be a first for the series. A user by the name of u/dovahkiitten16 explains that they're sad to see the mixture of action and strategy from previous games slowly fade away, claiming that BioWare is trying to "appeal to the widest possible audience."
On the other hand, there are also plenty of others that are excited for the shift, claiming that they prefer the more action-focused combat from Dragon Age 2 than the most recent title, Dragon Age: Inquisition. Others simply aren't bothered by what kind of combat BioWare is going for, instead hoping that the story and characters live up to previous games.
It's definitely a mixed bag of opinions, but it's probably best not to assume anything about the game until we see an official gameplay demonstration. Whatever the case, I'm sure most of us hope that Dreadwolf comes out and blows us all away, combat system be damned.
