Fallout 76 news: Bethesda shares new update on Wastelanders before Double XP event

Bethesda is planning some big things for Fallout 76 gamers in 2020, including the game’s next major update. The Wastelanders expansion was delayed from 2019 and now the development team have started teasing what’s coming next. PS4, Xbox One and PC gamers will be getting the new update before the end of March 2020, which means there could still be a bit of a wait.

Human NPCs being added to the game is one of the major changes coming with the expansion, with Bethesda telling fans last year:

“We’re excited about how Wastelanders is coming together but it’s going to need more time to be the best, most polished update it can be, so we are delaying its release to Q1 next year.

“We’ve continued to re-evaluate and change our processes to make sure the work we’re doing hits our quality bar, and yours. We apologize for this delay but know it will be worth the extra time.

“Wastelanders is turning out to be one of the largest expansions we’ve ever done, and it changes the entire world with human NPCs returning. We’ll be sharing more details over time, but here’s a first look at some of what’s to come in Wastelanders.”

And the first Wasterlanders teaser for 2020 was recently dropped by Bethesda, focusing on one of the new areas gamers will be able to explore.

Confirming that more big news regarding the free update would be released soon, Bethesda also shared new screenshots of Watoga, The City of the Future.

“The city is built on top of a massive series of automated parking garage systems which allow citizens to drop off their cars and store them until they’re needed again,” a message from Bethesda explains.

“The dozens of silos can store cars safe and secure, out of sight and out of mind!

“You may have seen the garage entrances scattered throughout Watoga. It’s a simple process to pick up or drop off your car – just enter your personal ID at one of the many conveniently located terminals and the system will do the rest.

“You can also order up maintenance or detailing, and even buy a new car without ever talking to a salesman!

“Of course, these services are no longer available to the citizens of post-apocalyptic Appalachia, but it’s nice to imagine how things used to be.”

Fallout 76 fans will be hoping to hear more about the Wastelanders release date later this month, but for now, Bethesda doesn’t appear to be ready to share the news.

While gamers may have to wait a little while longer for the next major expansion, Bethesda does have something cooking for this week.

Thursday, January 9, will see a new Double XP event launch on Fallout 76 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The Double XP event will be at around 5pm in the UK on January 9 and will be available until the following Monday.

Double XP in Fallout 76 is scheduled to end at 5pm in the UK on January 13 on all platforms.
