Fans Vote Geralt Vs. Renfri Fight As Best Scene From The Witcher Episode One
The official Twitter page for Netflix's The Witcher held a vote among fans for the best scene from its first episode, The End's Beginning. Unsurprisingly, the Geralt vs. Renfri swordfight is fan-favorite by a large margin — and is well deserved for its brilliant choreography.
Prior to the Witcher Season 2 premiere, fans have been encouraged to rewatch the first season and refresh their memories of the past events. To summarise the impressions of episode one, fans have to choose between three particular scenes: Geralt battling a kikimora in the opening, the Battle of Marnadal Valley, where Cintra forces under the Queen Calanthe were defeated by the Nilfgaardian army, or Geralt's fight with Renfri in Blaviken at the end of the episode.
As you may guess, the duel between White Wolf and bandit leader Renfri was voted the best one, with over 78 percent of viewers saying so at the time of writing. "It was the moment I realized that even though not all is done as I would've imagined this will be a great show after all," read one comment.
The scene is really a sight to behold due to the well-defined battle choreography, camera angles, and uncompromised brutality you might expect from the dark fantasy series. There's also an emotional layer to it, as Geralt didn't really want to kill Renfri — just make the opponent change her mind about the path she was on. The battle may even stand out as the season's best fighting since it's the only duel against a human that involves Geralt.
The Kikimora fight was voted number two, as fans think it is a good way to throw the audience straight into the action and show the viewers just how dangerous this line of work might get. Not to forget the black intoxicated eyes of a witcher being drugged by an elixir. "The fight against the kikimora at the beginning laid the foundation for whether the series could meet my basic expectations," another comment read.
Henry Cavill (Geralt), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), and Freya Allan (Ciri) have recently attended the premiere of Season 2 in London. The show will premiere on Netflix on December 17 with all eight episodes available for binge-watching.
