Galarian Ponyta spotted in Pokémon Sword & Shield Glimwood Tangle livestream

A 24-hour livestream for Pokémon Sword and Shield has revealed a new version of fire horse Ponyta, as well as a bunch of other pokémon.

If you want a test to see how much of a Pokémon fan you really are, ask yourself how long you stayed watching the 24-hour livestream of Glimwood Tangle – which for the majority of the time was just a static shot of some mushrooms.

Occasionally a pokémon would appear though and often one that hasn’t been confirmed for Pokémon Sword and Shield before.

The only brand new one though was a new Galarian form for Ponyta; Galar being the new UK-inspired setting for the game, just as the settting for Pokémon Sun/Moon was based on Hawaii.

The Galarian Ponyta has a unicorn-like horn and a mane and tail that seemed to be pink instead of a wreath of fire, although at other times it seemed to cycle through multiple colours – while one Ponyta didn’t seem to have a tail at all.

It’s worth pointing out that none of the livestream footage was from the game and was instead all pre-rendered, so things could look a little different when you play the real thing.

The following other pokémon also put in appearances, although the only one that’s new to Sword/Shield is Impidimp and it had already been seen before in other footage.

Still, that means even more pokémon confirmed for the game, with the list below indicating which games they first appeared in.

  • Impidimp (Sword/Shield)
  • Shiinotic (Sun/Moon)
  • Cottonee (Black/White)
  • Phantump (X/Y)
  • Morelull (Sun/Moon)
  • Pikachu (Red/Blue)

There were other glimpses of unidentified pokémon in the livestream but so far no-one has been able to work out what they are. So they could be some of these others that have already been named or perhaps something new.

We’ve no doubt fans will be going over everything with a microscopic in the following days, so if more are discovered we’ll update this page.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released on 15 November, only on Nintendo Switch.
