God Of War Ragnarok Producer Cory Barlog Teases New Game
Warning, spoilers for God of War Ragnarok.
As you can probably guess, God of War Ragnarok ends with Ragnarok. And while every character, from Freya to Sindri to Kratos and Atreus themselves, gets their own finale, tying up loose ends, there is one ending that left people with questions – Jörmungandr.
In a discussion with a fan debating Jörmungandr's closing of the time loop, producer Cory Barlog said, "In the 2018 game, Kratos, Atreus and Freya discuss jormy when riding the gondola before going to Alfheim. She talks about how jormy just appears one day and no one knows why/how. In Ragnarok, we close that loop connecting it to Loki."
Essentially, a younger 'Jormy' is born during Ragnarok, falls back in time, becomes old Jormy, and we meet him in the 2018 game. But that still leaves one question – how did he get back in time? Barlog said, "Thats a story for another game."
Ragnarok ends the Norse saga, something Santa Monica Studio was conscious of doing in only two games to avoid dragging it out for upward of 15 years or more. However, Barlog's tweet has sent people into a speculation frenzy as Jörmungandr is obviously still an integral part of the Norse story, meaning that whatever God of War comes next might not be completely done with the world of Nordic gods.
That's understandable given that we still have Loki and Angrboda's quest to play out, as well as Kratos' son literally being Loki. That and Kratos didn't completely wipe out the Nine Realms as he did with the Greek world.
We don't know what Santa Monica Studio will make next, as it has several projects on the go. So, it might be a while before we return to Kratos and Atreus, and whether that return sees answers to questions like Jormy's disappearance, remains to be seen. We'll have to wait and see.
