Google Stadia Now Available On iPhone With New Safari Beta
Google Stadia is finally coming to iOS devices today, although you still won’t find a playable version on the App Store. Apple’s restrictions on cloud gaming won’t let services like Stadia, GeForce Now, or xCloud onto the platform, so Google is using Safari as a workaround.
Once the update is pushed live, you should be able to navigate to the Stadia website through Safari and access your games remotely from your iPhone. Stadia has a free tier, too, meaning you can jump into Destiny 2 on your iOS device without dropping a dime.
Stadia hasn’t set the world of fire since launching last year, but it’s an incredible service, nonetheless. It recently picked up a huge game in the form of Cyberpunk 2077 – and, due to all the bugs running rampant on console, it might be the ideal way to play.
While Stadia won’t be playable in the form of an app, you can still add it to your home screen using a few easy steps. First, navigate to the Google Stadia website, then press the Action Button. This should pull up a bunch of options for you to wade through, but all you’re looking for is the “Add to Home Screen” option. Select that button, then click “Add” – Stadia will now be pinned to your home screen.
It’s likely that the update is rolling out in waves, as some iPhone owners are currently having trouble accessing the beta, while others are already streaming Cyberpunk 2077 to their heart’s content. Be sure to keep checking throughout the day as Google works to push it live for all devices.
Apple has been quite restrictive with its App Store lately, refusing to bend the rules and allow game streaming services to join the storefront. Apparently, because Apple can’t review all the games available on these platforms, it won’t allow them onto the App Store. It’s unfortunate for iPhone owners who are trying to join in on the new frontier in gaming, but we’re glad to see Google stepping up and offering a workaround for those affected.
