Grab Metro 2033 For Free On Steam During This Weekend

Steam has launched a sale on the Metro series with up to 80% discounts while offering everyone to pick up the original Metro 2033 for free. The event will continue throughout the whole weekend.

Metro is a series of video games developed by the Ukrainian company 4A Games based on the novels of writer Dmitry Glukhovsky. Metro 2033 is set in the ruins of Moscow in the aftermath of a nuclear war, where survivors hide in the underground Metro tunnels. As a young man Artyom, players leave their home station to protect all the survivors from the new dangerous threat. The game was originally released on PC in March 2010.

Due to the anniversary of the series, the developers are having a quick sale for all Metro games — with a giveaway of the original Metro 2033. The game was removed from Steam in 2014 after the Redux version was released, but now it has returned to Valve’s store specifically for the event. So if you still don’t have it, now is the time to fix the issue and grab a free copy for yourself. Metro 2033 will be free until March 15, 2021.

If you are unfamiliar with the Metro series at all, now you can quickly catch up on all that you missed, as the rest of the products in the series have drastically reduced their prices. A set with all the games in the franchise can be purchased at a 69% discount, with such games as Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux, Metro Exodus, and Metro Exodus Gold Edition receiving up to 80% discounts.

The latest installment in the series, first-person shooter Metro Exodus, was released on 15 February 2019. According to developer 4A Games, Metro Exodus will be getting a free “Enhanced Edition” upgrade on PC, when the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions launch later this year. Devs pointed out this upgrade is “so extensive that the team needs to deliver this version not as a simple patch, but as a separate product.”

In February this year, Dmitry Glukhovsky said Metro Exodus was the last game for the series with the speechless protagonist. The writer admitted that the lack of complete dialogue was ridiculous, so the fifth part of the game will finally add them. Also, it is expected that the next part of the Metro franchise will include multiplayer for the first time. The team wants “not just to bring some generic online modes to the game, but really implement something special for the Metro universe.” The next Metro is expected to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in a few years.
