Grand Theft Auto IV returns to Steam in March, but with a few missing features

The wait for the Grand Theft Auto 6 announcement just seems to get longer and longer, doesn't it?

But sandbox-craving, crime-loving gamers at least got some good news this week, as Rockstar Games revealed it would be bringing GTA IV back to Steam in the coming weeks.

If you need a quick refresher, Rockstar's fourth numbered title disappeared from Steam back in January when Games for Windows Live was removed as a platform.

Players were left unsure about when the game would return – and when they'd be able to play a title they've played for again.

Rockstar Games has updated the GTA IV Steam page, revealing that the title will be playable again in March 13, 2020 – though there are some caveats.

First up, the multiplayer mode will be disabled when the game returns.

In migrating the game across to the Steam platform, it seems Rockstar Games has had to make a couple of compromises to how the game works and interacts with other players.

As a result, the Games for Windows Live, Multiplayer mode and Leaderboards will not be available in the newly released GTA IV edition.

Also, possibly due to licensing reasons, Rockstar Games notes that the following Radio Stations will be temporarily unavailable in Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition: RamJam FM, Self-Actualization FM, and Vice City FM (previously available in Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City).

Rockstar also notes that Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition will replace both Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City wherever it is currently digitally available.

To be clear, that means anyone with a copy of either the base GTA IV or Episodes from Liberty City will have their version of the game upgraded to GTA IV: Complete Edition.

For more information on how that's going to work (depending on whether you have Games for Windows Live Digital Store Purchases, Physical Media or or a Steam user) head to the GTA IV Steam page to learn more.

The game will return to Steam on March 13, 2020.
