Journey for Elysium Seeks Oculus Rift & HTC Vive Beta Testers
Mantis Games is currently developing mythological virtual reality (VR) adventure Journey for Elysium, with a launch planned for the end of this year. Today, the team has announced it’s looking for Oculus Rift/Rift S and HTC Vive beta testers as development enters the final stages.
Publishing a post via Reddit, Mantis Games will be giving a select number of volunteers access to Journey for Elysium, all you need to do is complete this form. The team states: “The code will grant you access to a 10-minute demo on Steam. All you will have to do is to play it on your machine and fill in a second form we will send you with your code to collect your feedback. This will allow us to know how the game is performing on different setups and to improve it if needed.”
Applications for the beta will only be open for the next week so don’t delay. There’s no guarantee filling out the form will mean you’re selected, if you are, however, then you’ll be credited in the videogame.
With a distinctive black and white art style, Journey for Elysium has been inspired by Greek and Roman mythology, putting you in the role of an unnamed hero who has recently died. Finding yourself on a boat travelling through the Underworld trapped between life and death, you must solve an increasingly complex range of puzzles in order to reach Elysium and obtain redemption.
This boat is the main connection between the areas, so you have to learn how to row yourself across the Styx river, solving an assortment of challenges on route. Mantis Games chose rowing as it offered a comfortable yet immersive way to get around, alongside teleportation and smooth locomotion mechanics when onshore.
Initially, support will come to HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with the studio also planning to bring the experience to Windows Mixed Reality and PlayStation VR in the future. Even though it held an unsuccessful Kickstarter earlier this year, that hasn’t stopped the studio pressing on with development. VRFocus will bring you further details on Journey for Elysium as they’re announced, including the launch date.
