Latest Batman: Gotham Knights tease hints at Batgirl and new name

Warner Bros. has continued to tease the new Batman game due to be announced this weekend, with more hints at its real name.

It seems obvious now that there’s going to be a new tease every day this week, until the new Batman game is announced as part of the DC FanDome event on Saturday.

They really are teases though, as they don’t give away anything on first glance, but an update to the official website has revealed a series of numbers which fans on Reddit have worked out relate to the EAN of a particular Batman comic, namely Detective Comics issue #359 from 1966.

This is not only the first appearance of the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl but other fans remembered that the cover was remade for another comic in 2003, namely issue 43 of… Batman: Gotham Knights.

Considering Gotham Knights has been repeatedly rumoured as the name of the new game this seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

The hints also seem to support rumours that the new game will feature the complete ‘batfamily’ of characters, including Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and, perhaps, others.

Other rumours have suggested that the main villains will be the Court of Owls and that the game will feature a nemesis system similar to Warner’s Lord of the Rings games, but the significance of the non-Batman characters in terms of gameplay remains unclear.

While it’s assumed the sidekicks will be playable, as they have been in previous entries in the Arkham series, it’s unknown whether Gotham Knights will be single-player or if it will feature extended co-op options.

There’s certainly a wide range of different characters to choose from, with five different people having donned the mantle of Batgirl alone.

There have also been five different Robins over the years (Nightwing is the original one who went solo) and a wide array of other associated heroes, including Batwoman and Batwing – the ‘Batman of Africa’.

How deeply the game is going to get into all that remains to be seen but we do hope Ace the Bat-Hound is in it.
