Metro: Last Light Redux And For The King Free On The Epic Games Store

The Epic Games Store has added to new free games to its platform: Metro: Last Light Redux and For the King. The games can be added to players’ libraries for free from today until next Thursday, February 11, when Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition, a “massively enhanced version” of the 2016 sci-fi base-building strategy RPG, will be available at no cost.

Metro: Last Light Redux, a remastered version of Metro: Last Night was released for PS4 and Xbox One in August 2014, Nintendo Switch in February 2020 and Stadia in June 2020. The original post-apocalyptic FPS was developed by Ukrainian studio 4A Games and published by Deep Silver for Microsoft Windows, PS3 and Xbox 360 in May 2013. The game, a sequel to Metro 2033, follows Artyom, a young soldier, who must survive in the Moscow Metro after a devastating nuclear war.

Metro, based on the sci-fi novel by Russian-Israeli author Dmitry Glukhovsky, was praised for its world design, graphics, and gameplay. The game was the best-selling retail game in the UK in its week of release, while in the US, its first-week retail sales surpassed the lifetime retail sales of 2033.

Meanwhile, For the King, which was developed by IronOak Games and published by Curve Digital, is a strategic RPG that combines “tabletop and roguelike elements in a challenging adventure that spans the realms.” The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PS4, Xbox One and Steam in April 2018. In For the King, each playthrough features unique maps, quests, and events. The game can be played in single player, local, or online co-op modes. For the King will launch its first paid DLC expansion, Lost Civilization, on February 10.

The Epic Games Store will be giving away free games each week in 2021. Players can simply sign into their account and add free games to their library. Last week, the storefront offered Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition at no cost. In 2020, Epic’s free games were downloaded roughly 750 million times, helping drive user engagement and future purchases.
