Microsoft enlists Tomb Raider studio’s help for Perfect Dark reboot
Crystal Dynamics has been brought in to help out with development on the Perfect Dark reboot, rather than one of Microsoft’s own studios.
The Perfect Dark reboot for Xbox Series X/S was only announced at last year’s Game Awards, and it still looks to be a long way from being finished. Since that announcement, Microsoft hasn’t said anything else about the game. Until today that is.
Perfect Dark will be the first game from Microsoft’s new The Initiative studio. However, The Initiative isn’t working alone and has partnered with Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind the first two modern Tomb Raider games and the Avengers live service game.
‘The teams couldn’t pass up a chance to work together. We’re still early in development, but incredibly excited to use this unique opportunity to deliver on the vision for Perfect Dark!’ reads a tweet from The Initiative Twitter account.
It’s impossible to know what this means for the reboot but suddenly not being the focus of the studio’s attentions, even though it’s their first game, does seem like a a strange move.
Perfect Dark currently lacks a release date of any kind, and we could very well not see any new footage of it until next year.
Perfect Dark is in development exclusively for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
