New Nintendo Switch model with 4K resolution planned for 2021, says new rumour

It may finally be happening! After years of rumours, speculation and leaks revolving around upgraded hardware with the Nintendo Switch, the company may finally be set to reveal a new version of the popular hybrid console.

An upgraded version of the Nintendo Switch may be set for a big reveal soon, as multiple news organisations have started claimed that Nintendo is finally actioning some of its plans for the upgraded version of the console.

Bloomberg and Taipei outlet United Daily News individually state plans are in motion to get the new console production started, and each refer to their own sources that are apparently familiar with Nintendo's inner workings.

Bloomberg claims that Nintendo is floating ideas "more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics" – something that UDN also agrees with in its own reporting.

The latter report mentions we may see the console release as early as Q1 2021, but Bloomberg's write-up lacks any date or window.

We may also see a massive influx of new games announced for the Nintendo Switch during the holiday season, partly to bolster the release window of the new machine. Whether all announced games will work across the whole Switch family remains to be seen, however.

Whether we see this new console keep the hybrid nature of the base machine, go 'home console only' or follow in the footsteps of the Switch Lite (and remain only portable) remains to be seen, though it stands to reason that a 4K setup will most likely work with a dock and your home setup.

Nothing has been officially revealed by Nintendo at the time of writing, but we'll keep you updated as soon as the company reveals any official plans about a new Nintendo Switch model.
