New Plants Vs. Zombies shooter confirmed by EA, but is it battle royale?
EA has started a playtest for a new Plants Vs. Zombies shooter that’s codenamed ‘Picnic’ and by the same people that made Garden Warfare.
Whether it’ll end up being called Garden Warfare 3 is still currently a mystery, but EA definitely has a new Plants Vs. Zombies action game coming out – news of which they asked fans to keep confidential when they were inviting them to an alpha playtest.
Of course, what actually happened is that they all immediately started posting pictures of the invite online, although looking at the email it’s not clear what EA is being so coy about.
The message clearly states that Picnic is a ‘new PvZ shooter’ and that it’s ‘by the team that created PvZ Garden Warfare’, but it avoids using the name Garden Warfare 3.
So it is either literally Garden Warfare 3 or it’s something pretty similar. One rumour is that it’s a new battle royale game, which would make sense in terms of not revealing the name straight away.
A new Plants Vs. Zombies action game has been known about for a long time, with EA mentioning it to investors in February and a comic book accidentally mentioning Garden Warfare 3 over a year ago.
The playtest will run on the 1st and 2nd of August, so it’ll either be officially announced before then or there’ll be lots of leaked footage immediately afterwards.
Picnic is not to be confused with Plants Vs. Zombies 3 on smartphones, which was also revealed with a strange lack of razzmatazz and is currently engaged in a pre-alpha test for American Android users.
