New Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter reveal due at The Game Awards tonight

Nintendo has confirmed that they’ll be at The Game Awards tonight and that the eighth DLC character for Smash Bros. will be revealed.

Not only has Sony and Microsoft encouraged fans to watch The Game Awards tonight but now Nintendo is promising revelations too, including the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

This will be the third fighter out of six from Fighters Pass Vol. 2 and the eighth DLC fighter overall, following on from the recent additions of Mini Min from ARMS and Steve from Minecraft.

There’s zero clue from Nintendo as to who the new fighter might be and the only remaining rumour with any sort of credence is Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, which is rumoured to have an anniversary edition waiting to be announced soon (and therefore possibly tonight).

For the record, the fighters from the first Fighters Pass were Joker from Persona 5 (who was also announced at The Game Awards), the hero from Dragon Quest, Banjo and Kazooie, Terry Bogard from SNK’s Fatal Fury, and Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

That means the odds are the new characters is a licensed one, especially as Nintendo doesn’t have any obvious new characters to promote at the moment. (We’re still hoping it’s Nell from Advance Wars though.)

The other big question for fans is whether this is the only thing Nintendo will announce tonight. Given how much the coronavirus has messed with their schedules there’s probably a good chance it will be, but many are also holding out for a new trailer of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2.

It’s also a long time since we’ve had any kind of update on Bayonetta 3 or Metroid Prime 4, but Nintendo are unpredictable at the best of times and 2020, as you may have noticed, is not the best of times.
