Nintendo Acquires 'Luigi's Mansion 3' Developer Next Level Games
After more than a decade of developing titles for Nintendo, Next Level Games has finally been acquired by the Japanese video game giant.
The Vancouver-based studio has been developing games for Nintendo from as early as 2005 when it made Super Mario Strikers for the GameCube. Its latest title — Luigi’s Mansion 3 — released to massive popularity and critical acclaim, no doubt piquing Nintendo’s interest in what ultimately became an acquisition.
While the specific terms of the deal have not been disclosed by either party, Nintendo’s statement says that it’ll be acquiring all outstanding shares of Next Level Games, which are currently owned entirely by the directors and employees of the developer. It also stated simply that the shareholders decided it was time to sell their shares, but did not explain why.
The acquisition is expected to close on March 1.
Elsewhere in gaming, Epic has released a new sizzle reel showing off its Unreal Engine in next-gen games.
