Over 25 new PS5 first party exclusives in development says Sony

Not only does Sony have over 25 new exclusives on the way but it claims that almost half of them are new IPs, and not sequels or licences.

Sony has more than 25 first party titles currently in development for the PlayStation 5 and almost half of those are brand new IP, according to the boss of PlayStation Studios.

Hulst mentioned the figure in a new Wired article, in which he said, ‘There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions. Big, small, different genres.’

The latter comment may be a hint that some are from Japanese developers, which Sony has been criticised for sidelining so far on the console.

The only games Sony currently has confirmed are next month’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, the new God Of War, and Gran Turismo 7.

Presumably these are included in Hulst’s rough figure but even then, that means the majority of the 25+ titles are games nobody has heard about so far.

There have been vague announcements, such as a partnership with Jade Raymond’s new studio and one from several Bungie veterans, but there’s no clue as to what the games are or, importantly, when they will be released.

As Hulst implies, some will no doubt be smaller titles, perhaps similar to Destruction AllStars, which was initially offered free on PlayStation Plus, but Sony has already said that it aims to ‘aggressively’ invest in more first party PlayStation 5 games.

It’s certainly an encouraging figure though and some of the new games may be announced during Sony’s inevitable E3-adjacenet event in or around June, while others – especially for studios that have only just been set up – are likely several years away.
