Pokemon Sword and Shield Pokedex update adds a huge Gigantamax in December

Pokemon Sword and Shield had a fantastic, albeit rocky, release.

The game has done huge numbers and critical reception has been mostly positive, despite the anger over the lack of certain pokemon from past games being left out.

However, fans of the game can look forward to a big update coming this December with a new pokemon to add to the Pokedex, and it's a brand new Gigantamax Pokemon.

The new Gigantamax Pokemon joining the fight is Snorlax who doesn't just get big, he becomes a small island with grass, small trees and more growing on top of his belly.

You can't catch Gigantamax Snorlax just yet, he wont be added to Pokemon Sword and Shield until 4th December and will be available until early January.

Here's a bit more info about the big lazy boy, courtesy of Nintendo:

"We now know that there are special Snorlax among the Snorlax that you can find living in the Galar region.

"These Snorlax are capable of Gigantamaxing! When Gigantamaxed, these special Snorlax gain a different appearance than regular Dynamax Snorlax, and they can also unleash a G-Max Move called G-Max Replenish."

"The Berry seeds and small rocks that were tangled in its belly fur have undergone explosive growth thanks to the power of Gigantamaxing.

"With a tree sprouting upon its belly, this gigantic form of Snorlax has the majesty of a great mountain.

"Whether because of the great weight of its stomach or its unchanged natural disposition, this Gigantamax Pokemon almost never moves," the post continues.

"When the time comes to do battle, it lifts its upper body by just a tiny amount and attacks by flailing with its arms and legs.

"At first glance, you might think it’s not very serious about battling—but these actions pack a tremendous punch.

"In fact, Gigantamax Snorlax is said to be one of the strongest Dynamax Pokemon discovered."

How to catch Gigantamax Snorlax?

The absolute unit is only available in Max Raid Battles in Wild Areas.

That means connecting with four other players during multiplayer Max Raid Battles, to take on the massive new pokemon.
