PS4 Saves Won’t Carry Over To The PS5 Version Of Marvel’s Spider-Man
Players who have already played Marvel’s Spider-Man will not be able to transfer their saves over to the remastered version of the game.
There are a lot of things to be excited about when the PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S launch less than two months from now. For anyone buying a PS5, one of the things at the top of that list will be the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It isn’t a full sequel to the very popular Marvel’s Spider-Man, but it will build on the story and give fans a better look at Morales who was a key character in the first game.
On top of that, anyone who hasn’t played the first game, or wants to play it again, can get a remastered version of the game as a part of the Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. Insominiac’s James Stevenson has also revealed that it will be a lot more than a better-looking version of the game, as it will include new suits and extra trophies for players to try and get their hands on.
It isn’t all good news for those planning on buying the Ultimate Edition, however. Insomniac revealed on Twitter that saves from the original game on PS4 will not transfer over to the remastered version on PS5. That means anyone who has played before will need to start from scratch. Bad news for those who just want the extra suits and trophies.
There also appears to be some confusion for players who pre-ordered Miles Morales before its Ultimate Edition was announced. Some have asked Insomniac whether they will be able to upgrade their standard versions without giving up their pre-order. While the remastered version of Spider-Man is currently not available separately, Insomniac has revealed on Twitter that it has thought about that problem.
Whether saves being non-transferrable will be a major sticking point for Spider-Man fans remains to be seen. As stated above, some might have wanted nothing more from the game than the extra suits and trophies, and to marvel at its improved look. However, some would argue that the whole point of a remaster is to play through it again to see how different it really is. Sales of the game’s Ultimate Edition and the next steps Insomniac takes in terms of a theoretical separate release will reveal which side is more vocal.
