PS5 Box Contents Revealed In New Report

The release date and price for the PlayStation 5 remain a mystery, but an upcoming PS5 showcase event planned for September 16 might finally provide more details. Ahead of that, the box contents for Sony’s next-gen console have seemingly been revealed. There’s nothing surprising to see in these listings, but if accurate, it does confirm that both the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition packages will include all of the same items inside.

According to Niko Partners’ senior analyst Daniel Ahmad, the boxes for both the Digital and Standard editions of the PlayStation 5 feature the same things. Alongside the console and wireless DualSense controller, you get the attachable base, an AC power cord, HDMI cable, and more.

Both systems come with a pre-installed copy of SIE Japan Studio Asobi Team’s 3D platformer Astro’s Playroom, although you may need to update the console before you’re able to use or play the game. It’s intended to fully demonstrate the console’s new unique features, such as its adaptive triggers with several degrees of resistance. It will also demonstrate the speaker’s capabilities. If it’s anything like the PSVR exclusive Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, it’ll be a treat.

Ahmad points out that this list of items featured in the boxes of the PlayStation 5 comes from a Hong Kong-based distributor, meaning that the list region-specific and could differ depending on the country. Still, any PlayStation 5 box will likely include a controller, HDMI cable, AC power cord, and other vital components. The base included in the list also means you’ll be able to turn the console on its side out of the box–the PS4 required the stand as a separate purchase to properly place the console vertically. It isn’t possible to place the PS5 horizontally without a stand because of its form factor, which has curves on both sides. The Xbox Series X, meanwhile, features a stand on one end and can be placed horizontally or vertically without attaching anything.

Sony is reportedly taking steps to use air freight to ship PS5 in order to ensure enough systems make it to store shelves. However, reports have suggested that Sony has had to reduce the number of consoles that will be available at launch.
