PS5 release date news: Is Sony bringing this major PS4 game to next PlayStation and Xbox?

But there’s more to all this. When a fan asked a similar question about whether God of War was a PS4 exclusive, PlayStation Spain’s Twitter answered:

‘Hi! Yes, it’s exclusive for PS4.’ This is a much clearer response and some fans think the comparison further suggests that Death Stranding will come to more than just PS4.

Even if the tweet was an honest mistake, Death Stranding may well come to PS5 anyway as other games including Dying Light 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 are hinted to be (or outright confirmed to be) cross-generation games.

Additionally, Mark Cerny, Lead System Architect of the PS4, was recently talking about Death Stranding to Wired. When asked if the game would be coming to PS5, Cerny left a pregnant pause in the conversation.

Given the game’s themes and narrative, it seems likely Death Stranding would be a good fit for cross-generational play. Controlling Sam Porter Bridges (performed by Norman Reedus), players will seemingly be trying to reconnect isolated cities and factions. Apparently, ‘the strand’ is an important theme in the game.

If players are indeed forging connections, what better way to elaborate on this theme than by working with gamers playing on different consoles? It’s presumably not beyond the realm of possibility that Death Stranding could eventually come to other next-gen platforms including Xbox Scarlett, PC and maybe even Google Stadia.

One thing is for sure though, gamers are eagerly awaiting the release of the game. Especially considering Kojima has explained that Death Stranding is unlike any other action game out there.

In fact, Troy Baker (star of The Last of Us and an actor in Death Stranding) was recently interviewed by PushSquare during Manchester Comic-Con and was asked what he thought about the upcoming game. Baker stated:

‘[Kojima] doesn’t make “games”. He’s an amazing world builder. He’s trying to move the medium forward, not just trying to move copies.’

It seems Death Stranding has the potential to be one of the biggest and most extravagant games of our generation and perhaps beyond!
