Streets Of Rage 4 DLC confirmed, as Dotemu plan three new games

The successful revival of Sega’s classic beat ‘em-up series will be getting DLC. as the creators tease three upcoming new projects.

Scrolling beat ‘em-ups have become a lot more common in the last few years than they used to be, at least in indie circles, but the undisputed champion has been Streets Of Rage 4.

It successfully combined tributes to the original Mega Drive games with a host of new characters, but if there’s one thing fans always want it’s more – and it looks like they’ll be getting it.

Publisher and co-developer Dotemu has confirmed that there will be DLC but they haven’t said what it is or when it will be out. However, some fans are already convinced that Estel Aguirre is being teased as a new playable character.

You can see her standing in the background of the image above – which is suspicious – although the main reason to think she might be added is simply that she’s so popular.

The tweet doesn’t specifically mention playable characters though, so with a bit of luck we’ll also be getting new stages, modes, and maybe even music.

The tweet references a Q&A on Reddit where Dotemu go into a bit more detail, saying: ‘We have many ideas, and we really want to add more content in the future. But nothing has been decided yet, so we are listening to you and will let you know ‘what’ and ‘when’ soon.’

Most of the questions were about DLC but Dotemu also answered one about a possible sequel: ‘We haven’t discussed it yet but we’d like to first focus on SoR4 and continue to add content. But at Dotemu we are currently working on three unannounced similar projects, so stay tuned.’

There was no indication of whether these were related games – perhaps other Sega revivals – but there seems a good chance that at least one of them will be given how successful Streets Of Rage 4 and the previous Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap have been.
