Super Mario Maker 2 release date revealed for June
The sequel to Nintendo’s popular game creation tool will be out in late June, exactly the time rumours have placed the new, smaller Switch…
Nintendo’s next major first party launch will be on 28 June, as they finally give a release date to Super Mario Maker 2.
A sequel to the popular editing tool for the Wii U and 3DS, Super Mario Maker 2 allows anyone to create their own 2D Super Mario levels – as well as including many pre-built stages by Nintendo themselves.
The new game will also have a limited edition bundle, although all it contains is a year’s membership to Nintendo Switch Online – which is presumably necessary to share and download stages online. There’s also a special Switch stylus available, whether you buy the game physically or digitally.
Perhaps not uncoincidentally, late June is exactly when the most recent rumours place the release date for the new, smaller model of the Switch that Nintendo are allegedly working on.
It’s common for Nintendo to release a new hardware model alongside a new game, but as with anything they do we’ll have to wait for an official annoucement to know for sure.
Apart from digital-only BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! this week that now makes Super Mario Marker 2 the earliest first party title on Nintendo’s schedules, ahead of Team Ninja’s Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order on 19 July and Fire Emblem: Three Houses on 26 July.
The likes of Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Pokémon Sword/Shield are all scheduled for 2019 but have no release date.
