The CD Projekt Red/Cyberpunk 2077 Lawsuit Can’t Keep Track Of The Different Xboxes

The legal documents for the class-action lawsuit against CD Projekt Red over Cyberpunk 2077 were clearly drafted by non-gamers, as it mixed up the names of the different Xbox consoles that are on the market.

CD Projekt Red is currently in hot water, as a class action lawsuit has been filed against the company by its own investors. This is due to the company’s misleading statements over the quality of the Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, which was so poor that it resulted in its removal from the PlayStation Store. Cyberpunk 2077 is practically unplayable on the PS4 and Xbox One, which are some of the biggest platforms that it’s available on.

The documents for the case have been uploaded to Scribd by Polygon, and they contain an amusing error. The different platforms that Cyberpunk 2077 is available on are listed as part of the suit, and the names for the Xbox systems are incorrect. The documents refer to the Xbox X and Xbox Series One as consoles, where it’s supposed to say Xbox One and Xbox Series X. The document also doesn’t capitalize the “S” in PlayStation and it refers to Google Stadia as Google’s Stadia.

It’s easy to laugh at whoever made this error, but they aren’t alone. The Xbox One X briefly skyrocketed up the Amazon pre-order charts, as people mistook it for the Xbox Series X/S. These pre-orders were swiftly canceled and consoles returned when people worked out their error.

Microsoft and Nintendo need to take a lesson from Sony and follow a sensible naming scheme for their consoles. The PlayStation line has kept the same numbering scheme for decades and it has worked. We’re going to ignore the PS Vita, because everyone else did. The Nintendo Wii U struggled to find an audience, which was partly blamed on its confusing name, while Microsoft seemingly uses random name generators for its system titles. If lawyers whose job involves correctly writing legal documents can confuse the name of the Xbox line of systems, then there is clearly a problem.
