Top PlayStation 4 exclusive game arrives on Xbox One later this year
Even though we're seeing the PS5 and Xbox Series X arrive later this year, there's still a lot of money to be made by Microsoft and Sony in the current generation.
The Ps4/Xbox One era has, more or less, been an uncontested win for Sony: the PlayStation 4 has sold more units, its exclusive games have been rated higher, third-party sales have been greater on the platform, and even engagement with its next-gen console has been higher for Sony than it has for Microsoft.
As we edge towards the next gen, many players are hoping to see Microsoft pull it back a little, and the power of the Xbox Series X could see that happen.
For now, Microsoft is doing everything it can to prove to consumers that it is listening and learning – positioning itself in the best the strongest way before the PS5 drops.
To this end, it seems Microsoft has managed to snag a Sony-funded exclusive game in an unprecedented move that sees the Xbox roster of games swell once more.
Towards the end of last year, it was confirmed that the hugely popular MLB series will be making its way to other consoles in the future. Whilst Xbox and Nintendo were not mentioned by name, both companies social media accounts retweeted the news.
For reference, this game had previously only been available on PlayStation platforms.
The MLB series has, for the past 20 years, been a Sony exclusive, with Sony's SIE San Diego Studio studiously working on the game for several years.
But it appears as though a new licensing deal has forced PlayStation to bring the IP to other platforms.

As per Sony and Major League Baseball, games with the MLB branding will be available on other hardware by 2021.
“Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and San Diego Studio jointly announced today that they have entered into multi-year extensions to continue development and distribution of MLB The Show, the award-winning officially licensed video game," a press release from the Major League Baseball
“In addition, the historic expansion of the long-standing partnerships will bring MLB The Show, for the first time ever, to additional console platforms beyond PlayStation platforms as early as 2021."
“Complete details will be announced at a later date.”
This new agreement isn't due to begin until 2021, so we should see one more Sony exclusive MLB The Show game between now and then.
We imagine it won't be until much later this year, closer to Christmas that we hear more about the game and plans to bring it to new platforms.
