Wrath: Aeon Of Ruin Gets A New Update Today With An Extra Level, Release Set For Summer 2021
The rather excellent retro FPS Wrath: Aeon of Ruin has just received a new update today that includes the final level of its first hub world. With episode one now complete, players won’t have too much longer to wait for the final version of the game. Sadly, this update also brings some bad news for fans: Wrath is now scheduled for a Summer 2021 release instead of its originally announced February 2021 date.
Frederik Schreiber, vice president of publisher 3D Realms, said in a press release, “While delays are never ideal, we wanted to release one awesome final update before going heads down to knock this out of the park. Summer may seem far away, but we are working diligently to make WRATH the best game it can be.” With that, this newest update will be the last one before Wrath leaves early-access.
That’s certainly a bummer, but Wrath is already a fairly solid shooter. As I’ve said numerous times before, I’m in love with the feel of the game’s weapons and its unique environments. Pushing the Quake 1 engine to its limits, Wrath feels exactly like the type of evolution we would have seen out of the genre if Half-Life hadn’t burst onto the scene in 1998.
It’s certainly not a game for everyone, but fans of retro goodness would be wise to pick up Wrath when it releases. You can currently grab the game on PC for $24.99 and get access to all of its presently available content along with the final release. The game will also make an appearance on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch this summer.
