Wreckfest Now Available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
Bugbear Entertainment’s smash hit Wreckfest is now available for console players. (See what we did there?)
The carnage-happy racer takes a different approach from others in the genre. The name is the giveaway, really. A soft-body physics engine provides damage in real-time, pushing players to be more mindful of the wear and tear their car takes on during the race. There’s strategy here too: you can armor up your beater to survive the mayhem, but it will impact its performance.
Wreckfest includes all manner of vehicles for players to smash into tiny pieces. From (unlicensed, for obvious reasons) classic muscle cars and other beaters right through to buses, combines, and big rigs, variety is the name of the game. There’s even a motorized sofa! Get a taste of it in the launch trailer:
Players can take part in more traditional types of circuit racing, as well as demolition derbies. The goal is similar in each: either cross the line first, or be the last vehicle still running.
A career mode allows players to buy, sell, and upgrade cars, plus invest in research. Multiplayer is also available.
Buyers have two choices: a standard and a Deluxe edition. Those that chose the latter got to start playing Monday, August 26, and can look forward to 20 cars arriving post-launch as part of the included Season Pass. Not looking to spend the extra dough? That’s okay: Bugbear has stated some additional content will also be arriving free of charge.
Wreckfest is available on store shelves as well as the PlayStation and Microsoft digital stores.
