Xbox Scarlett price alert: Microsoft promise FREE Xbox 2 upgrade

Microsoft is taking the fight to Sony's PlayStation 5 this week by announcing a surprising service that will allow new Xbox One owners to essentially upgrade to the Xbox Scarlett for absolutely free.

It's all part of the companies new monthly subscription called Xbox All Access which nets players an Xbox (one of three models) and a two-year Game Pass subscription.

However come Holiday 2020, players will then be able to upgrade to Project Scarlett at launch without paying a penny extra.

"We realise buying a console is an investment and some players are waiting to make the jump to the next generation with Project Scarlett when it launches in Holiday 2020 alongside 'Halo Infinite'," said Microsoft's Jeff Gattis.

"This is why as a limited time offer this holiday season, players in the U.S. and U.K. who purchase an Xbox One X with Xbox All Access through December 31, 2019, have the option to upgrade to the next Xbox console in as few as 12 months and once Project Scarlett has officially launched."

For those interested, here are the three different options available to players looking to take advantage of Xbox All Access in the UK.

The cheapest option is £17.99 a month and in return, you'll get an Xbox One S digital edition, plus 24 months of Game Pass Ultimate.

A slightly more expensive option of £19.99 nets buyers the standard Xbox One S (with a disc-drive) and again 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Those looking for the top tier 4K experience can also pick up the Xbox One X for £24.99 a month, along with 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

The two Xbox One S options come with an 18-month upgrade option, however, the Xbox One X subscription also gives players the chance to upgrade to Xbox Scarlett after just 12-months as well.

None of the plans require an upfront fee, so it's just the subscription cost, which all run for 24 months.

If it's not obvious, this way of buying the console also means you'll need to pass a credit check to access the finance, so not everyone will (necessarily) be eligible.

In the UK there's only two physical stores offering these Xbox All Access subscriptions and that's GAME and Smyths Toys .

Very little is known about Xbox Scarlett, but we can imagine that Microsoft could reveal an awful lot about the console later this month at X019 which takes place in London.

It could be that the event doesn't confirm many tech specs, but some of the console big new exclusives from Ninja Theory, inXile Entertainment and many more from some of the new developers who this year joined Xbox Game Studio's.

Microsoft's X0 Shows have traditionally been used to reveal the company's upcoming Xbox-related plans, and the London event promises to be a significant milestone in the Xbox calendar.

In an interview with Twinfinite , Xbox Games Marketing General Manager Aaron Greenberg noted that the company is planning a 'lot of surprises' at the event, with 'a lot of content' planned to be revealed at the show.

"As we get into the Holiday, we really brought back the spirit of XO, which really was all about doing a celebration of all things Xbox.," he told the site.

"E3 is traditionally more of an industry event, whereas XO for us is really focused on the fans and our gamers who just want to celebrate with us.

"That’s what we did at XO last year in Mexico City, that’s what we’re doing at XO19 this year in London. We do an Inside Xbox Show, we do a live show.

"It is our biggest Inside Xbox show of the year. We have a lot of surprises planned. We have a lot of content coming both from Xbox Game Studios, as long as third-party partners."

XO19 will take place in London between November 14 and November 16.
