Xbox Series X price will be $100 cheaper than PS5 claim industry insiders

Microsoft will only announce the price of the Xbox Series X once they know how much the PS5 costs, but unfortunately Sony are trying the same tactic.

We’ve had technical details about the next gen consoles, but in terms of the most important things – the price and the games – we still know almost nothing about either the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, and that seems to be because Sony and Microsoft are caught in a game of high stakes chicken.

Back in February Sony admitted that it was waiting to see what Microsoft did before setting the price of PlayStation 5, but now two heavyweight industry insiders claim Microsoft is doing the same thing.

Speaking in a podcast hosted by Geoff Keighley, analyst Michael Pachter and former EA and Xbox boss Peter Moore agreed that Microsoft’s policy was to wait to see what PlayStation 5’s price is and then undercut it.

‘From what I’ve seen, Sony’s gonna have to charge $500 for the PS5 and Microsoft has a big balance sheet,’ said Pachter.

‘If they wanna cut the price by $100 and subsidise the first 10 million [consoles] they will. So, I think that they’re waiting to have Sony blink first and then they’ll reveal the price’.

Pachter added that he thought the Xbox Series X would likely end up as $400 (it’s pointless to convert the US prices to pounds as they’ll more likely be the same number value, i.e. £400).

Although Pachter’s reputation is not exactly spotless when it comes to predictions, Moore agreed with him and the idea that both companies were waiting on each other to announce first, so that they could try and undercut each other.

At this rate though they’ll be announcing the price the day before the consoles come out…
