Making Poffins – Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl guide

Those looking to participate in Super Contest Show in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl need to make Poffins, sweet treats that improve your Pokémon’s condition. Our Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Poffin guide explains how to make the perfect Poffins for specific conditions and how nature affects your gains.

Where do I get the Poffin Case?

Before you can start making Poffins, you need to grab the Poffin Case from the chairman of the Pokémon Fan Club. The fan club has a small building in Hearthome City, and he’ll give you the Poffin Case as soon as you talk to him.

How do I make Poffins?

There are Poffin pots in various places. Notably, there’s one in the Poffin house right below the contest arena, and one in the back in Amity Square.

After selecting berries to mix, you’ll spin your joystick in the instructed direction. If you spin too slow or too fast, the Poffin mix will burn or spill, so keep up the perfect cadence.

You get as many Poffins as berries you use in the mix, so if you use three berries, you’ll get three Poffins. Based on our testing, if you use two or more of the same berry in one Poffin batch, they will turn into a Foul Poffin.

How do I improve specific conditions?

Each Poffin has a different flavor, depending on which berries you use, and the flavor correlates to the condition that will improve upon feeding. The higher the condition of your Pokémon, the better they will do the in the visual portion of the respective contest.

Flavor and condition correlates as follows:

  • Spicy: Coolness
  • Dry: Beauty
  • Sweet: Cuteness
  • Bitter: Cleverness
  • Sour: Toughness

From our tests, Foul Poffins get somewhat random stats, regardless of which berry you use.

You can check the flavors of a berry by pressing the Y button on the berry selection screen.

How does nature play into Poffins?

Based on previous games and our own Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl testing, we noticed certain Pokémon of specific natures like certain flavors more. The more they like the flavor, the more their condition will rise when you feed them that flavor. The less they like it, the less their condition will rise.

For example, Pokémon with modest natures like dry Poffins and dislike spicy Poffins. Use this to account for which Pokémon you enter in contests, especially as you get to higher levels.

Is there a limit to how many Poffins I can feed my Pokémon?

Yes. Every time you feed a Pokémon a Poffin, its Sheen increases. When its Sheen is maxed out, you can’t feed it anymore Poffins. There is no way to decrease or reset conditions or Sheen.
