Epic Games Store suffers outage alongside Fortnite’s big black hole event
PC gamers are reporting problems with the Epic Games Store, saying that they can’t log in to the service to play titles through Epic’s launcher. According to Epic Games’ status page, its servers are experiencing a “minor service outage” and that the Epic Games Store is suffering from a “partial outage.”
As for Fortnite, Epic’s flagship game, services like logins, matchmaking, and voice chat are experiencing an “anomaly.” Which is somewhat ironic, given that Fortnite Battle Royale isn’t playable right now by design. A cataclysmic event occurred in the game around 2 p.m. ET, during which a black hole absorbed the entire Fortnite Battle Royale island map, leaving nothing behind. Players logging into the game will only see a black hole at the center of their screen.
On Twitter, Epic Games acknowledged the outage.
“We are aware that some folks are unable to login to the Epic Games launcher and are working on getting the service back to normal,” the company said. “As a work around, you can elect to skip login to access games that don’t require you to be online.”
The outage on the Epic Games Store is likely due to a crush of traffic for Fortnite, as players dive in to check out the end of season 10. There’s no telling when Fortnite will return from its black hole vacation, but hopefully other services will be restored when things calm down.
