Gears 5, Dead Cells coming to Xbox Game Pass in September
September’s lineup of new games for Xbox Game Pass subscribers is led by Gears 5, Microsoft’s biggest exclusive of 2019, but there’s plenty of other stuff that’s just as appealing.
Gears 5, developed by The Coalition for Windows PC and Xbox One, won’t be released publicly until Tuesday, Sept. 10, and that’s when it will go live for standard Xbox Game Pass subscribers. But people who have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate — which bundles Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass on both PC and Xbox One for $14.99 a month — will be able to play Gears 5’s Ultimate Edition starting Friday, Sept. 6. (Buying the Ultimate Edition, which includes the four days of early access, without a subscription would cost $79.99.)
For more on the game, you can read our impressions of the Gears 5 campaign, which does not just consist of the same old stop-and-pop shooting action.
Coming to Game Pass on Sept. 6 alongside the Gears 5 Ultimate edition is Creature in the Well, a hack-and-slash title from Flight School Studio, on both PC and Xbox One. The same platforms apply for the Sept. 5 release of Dead Cells, Motion Twin’s celebrated permadeath game from 2018. Thursday will also bring HD remasters of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater to Game Pass on Xbox One.
Then, on Sept. 12, Game Pass subscribers on Xbox One will get Art in Heart’s Gonner: Blueberry Edition and Dodge Roll’s Enter the Gungeon. Those two titles will also be available to PC customers at some point during September, along with Plausible Concept’s Bad North: Jotuun Edition and Flying Wild Hog’s Shadow Warrior 2.
If you’re interested in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Microsoft is still running a promotion through which you can get the first two months for $2.
