Cyberpunk 2077 will also star Keanu Reeves’ motorcycle
Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red revealed new details on Thursday about how vehicles will work in the game — including how players will obtain cars, and how they will summon them when needed. The studio also revealed a partnership with Porsche, and with Johnny Silverhand actor Keanu Reeves’ own custom motorcycle company.
Cyberpunk 2077 will include lots of vehicles, such as motorcycles, off-road vehicles, armored cars, and high-performance supercars. Developers showed players driving in both first- and third-person perspectives. Cars can be stolen, they said, or purchased outright. Players will also be able to summon vehicles from their collection with the press of a button — much like how they were able to summon Geralt’s horse, Roach, in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Among the vehicles shown off during the presentation were five distinct classes. Economy cars will be smaller and more affordable, while executive-class cars will be massive four- and six-wheeled monsters. Heavy duty cars include armored vehicles and light tanks, while sport vehicles have been designed for all-out speed and performance. Finally, the game’s hypercars will blend together the best features of several other classes. They’ll be heavily armed and armored, while also extremely fast and maneuverable.
According to the video, every player-owned vehicle in the game will be unique — both in their sound and in their look — inside and out. The part of the game world that a given vehicle comes from will also influence its condition. Differences may include missing components like dashboard elements, or external hacks like solar panels. While all of the rides shown in the video look extremely futuristic, at least one historic vehicle is included — a century-old 1977 Porsche 911 that once belonged to Johnny Silverhand himself.
CD Projekt also revealed another surprise. Actor Keanu Reeves, who portrays Silverhand in the game, was invited to use one of his own custom-made motorcycles to help create assets for the game. Reeves is the co-founder of Arch Motorcycle, which specializes in custom sport bikes, and the company’s Arch Method 143 — of which there are only 23 units available worldwide — was used to capture audio for the game. Futuristic versions of Arch Motorcycles will also be included in the final game.
Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on Nov. 19 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One; it will be backward-compatible on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. CD Projekt Red also confirmed a day-and-date launch on Google Stadia, which had not been 100% confirmed up until this point. Pre-orders are available now across all four platforms.
