NFL player gets second-most famous Halo tattoo

George Kittle, tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, dropped into a tattoo parlor near his Iowa home to get inked with a tribute to his favorite game franchise. Kittle is very proud of it, but he seems not to know this is the second greatest Halo tattoo of all time.

We’ll grant him the sincerity of his fandom, even if it looks like Kittle is a promotional partner for Xbox. In terms of size and detail, it easily dwarfs the one Peter Moore got, allegedly for life, to prove Microsoft would hit Halo 2’s ship date in 2004. But in terms of who gets asked about their tat more, we’re betting the former Xbox boss will continue to reign supreme.

Kittle (who has The Joker on his left forearm) would have been 11 during E3 2004, when Moore, then Xbox’s boss, got the Halo 2 logo and launch date tatted on his right bicep. Or, well, so the story goes. Lots of folks believe the ink wasn’t permanent; Moore refuses to say, and has also refused to show his arm since then. He later repeated the stunt with an obviously slapped-on Grand Theft Auto 4 logo for his left arm at E3 2006.

An IGN interview in 2015 with Moore sort of illustrates his running schtick: lots of details about getting the tattoo, no verification that Moore still has it.

Moore, the chief executive of Liverpool Football Club, announced last week that he would be leaving his post at the end of this month, following the Reds’ 2020 Premier League championship, LFC’s first since 1990. We’re trying to track him down to harangue him into showing his arm again. He should be used to this by now.

Halo: Infinite, for the record, does not have a launch date yet. Once it does, we expect to see Phil Spencer taking the needle.
